The institute was established in September 2005 with an aim to promote studying and performing early music (music in and before the baroque period) as little attention was paid to this music in Korea.
At the center, are studies and projects on computer music and sound conducted while the creation of computer music is promoted. Major projects include virtual reality, video music and sound work for 2000 Gyeongju Cultural Expo, and cell phone ringtone development for LG electronics. In addition, the Center has contributed to promoting computer music performances by joining ACC 2008 (Osaka Geidai) concert, Next Wave Concert 2008 and others.
The roles of the Institute are: collecting data on Korean composers; conducting studies on the composers and their works; building a theoretical ground of Korean music and setting a future direction; and promoting international exchanges and the works worldwide.
